A GoFundMe appeal has been launched for a terminally ill Radcliffe on Trent mum.
Mary-Beth Cleator, 31, had been misdiagnosed with chronic pelvic inflammatory disease and suspected endometriosis in 2023 before being diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer.
She is said to be continuing life as normal with her kids, aged two, five and 10, telling Nottingham Post: “I do worry about their future but I’ve still been managing everyday fun so the kids have got normality.”
A golf ball sized growth was found on Mary-Beth ovary following 2 years of hospital visits thought to be related to illness she had endured.
Mary-Beth said: “They operated and found the cancer. They said it could’ve been there as long as two years and can take up to 10 years to reach stage four.”
The cancer has spread around her body to her bones, abdomen and liver.
“It made me feel angry. I was angry for weeks. They apologised and said it sometimes looks very similar to endometriosis.”
A GoFundMe was set up to raise funds to seek treatment in Germany, where newly emerging technology with targeted chemotherapy and lasering the tumour could prove to be vital.
Nottingham University Hospitals have said that they are looking into the concerns put forward in this case. Speaking to Nottingham Post Sophie Wilne the clinical director of family healthcare group at NUH said: “We recognise the huge impact that this has had and continues to have on Mary-Beth Cleator and her family. We are looking into the concerns raised by Mary-Beth and will work with colleagues to understand what has happened.”
