Former BBC East Midlands Today presenter John Hess is set to run for election at the upcoming local elections
The 69-year-old has been chosen by local Labour members to represent the party on the election, which is due to take place on 1 May 2025.
Speaking to West Bridgford Wire, he said: “I’m really honoured to have been selected, and I’m already out and about, meeting residents in Radcliffe and the neighbouring villages to find out their local concerns.”
“This is a growing area of Nottinghamshire, and many of the issues are connected with ensuring Radcliffe gets the infrastructure and services from County Hall that our residents and newcomers expect.”
The Radcliffe-on-Trent division of Nottinghamshire County Council also represents neighboring areas including Holme Pierrepont, Shelford, Saxondale, Newton and Gamston North.
John is a Radcliffe resident and has been for over 25 years. He grew up in Solihull and worked as a journalist in the West Midlands before moving to Nottinghamshire.
In 1997 John Hess joined East Midlands Today and went on to appear on Sunday Politics and was the Political Editor for the East Midlands up until 2015.
The University of Nottingham made John an Honorary Professor at the School of Politics and International Relations.
John Hess previously ran to become Labour’s choice for the East Midlands’ first regional mayor ahead of the election in 2024.
