Radcliffe on Trent parish councillor Neil Clarke MBE has been selected to lead Rushcliffe Borough Council.
Councillor Clarke was re-selected to serve the position for the next four years at the Conservative-led council.
Councillor Clarke’s appointment follows a six-year absence from the role he held for 12 years, after he chose to step down.
Clarke’s successor Simon Robinson himself stepped down in the lead up to the May local elections.
Speaking to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Neil Clarke said:
“It’s a great honour to have been elected once again as the council leader, I was leader previously for 12 years.
“There’s a lot to do, the council has already achieved a lot and it’s very well-respected and thought of.
“But we need to keep working hard for our residents, they expect it to be a good place and, certainly, I hope we will be maintaining that it is a great place to live.”
The Rushcliffe Council cabinet was also announced today, including the appointment of fellow Radcliffe on Trent councillors Abby Brennan as Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Business and Growth and Roger Upton as Portfolio Holder for Planning and Housing.
Additional council positions include:
- Councillor Davinder Virdi (Con, Gamston) as Portfolio Holder for Finance
- Jonathan Wheeler (Con, Gamston) as Portfolio Holder for Transformation, Leisure and Wellbeing
- Rob Inglis (Con, Keyworth and Wolds) as Portfolio Holder for Environment and Safety
