Julie Cawthorne, owner of Snack Stop on Bingham Road, is officially retiring after 25 of running the local food business.

Julie and her mother Joan took on the business 25 years ago, leaving their previous jobs behind to put their efforts into an entrepreneurial idea with Snack Stop.

The mother-daughter partnership thrived and has placed the business among the village’s most revered independent food businesses.

When Joan decided to retire, Julie’s younger sister, Jane, stepped in to help run the business. Together, Jane and Julie continued the family tradition of excellence. Eventually, Jane branched out to pursue her passion for creating occasion cakes, leaving Julie as the sole owner of Snack Stop.

Julie rose to the challenge, expanding the shop’s offerings, building a loyal clientele, and providing outside catering for events. Her tireless work ethic and determination helped Snack Stop weather challenges like the pandemic and economic uncertainty, securing its place as a cherished local establishment.

Julie’s daughter Laura said: “Julie’s hard work, determination and strong work ethic carried her through tough years of the pandemic and many other financial crisis. 

Julie’s daughter Laura said: “Julie’s warm, friendly, hard working and  loyal nature is felt by the community and over the years has had some amazing women join her helping her serve, take deliveries and support with buffets. 
“Julie has people pop their head in daily to say a friendly hello, see if she wants a paper which is a true reflection of the lovely community they have all built over the years. 
“Julie has poured her heart and soul into Snack Stop and gave it her all. What a huge achievement to run a successful business for 25 years
“Julie thought long and hard about retirement and decided to sell up, selling it to two women who have a keen attitude to follow in Julie’s legacy at snack stop
“Julie’s desire is to now focus on travelling to Australia to see her son and his family and spend time with her daughter and beautiful granddaughters. Julie is also ealready excited to spend time with Hugo, her dog, who she adores!”
