Plans to revamp The Manvers Arms have come to a holt after the pub’s licensee announced their departure from the project.
An announcement on the pub’s website posted yesterday has confirmed its planned autumn 2021 reopening will no longer go ahead.
In a statement via their website TheManvers.com, the operator said:
“Unfortunately, after much cost and many months of talks with the landlords of The Manvers Arms I have been unable to reach an agreement and have therefore withdrawn from the project.
It is a huge disappointment to me as being Radcliffe-on-Trent born and bred I see the potential of The Manvers Arms and believe it deserves to be returned to its former glory and regain its position as the first-choice hospitality venue in Radcliffe on Trent.
I would like to thank everyone for their goodwill, support and cooperation with this initiative – it’s been fantastic.
For those of you who have contacted me direct I will call you and explain the reasons behind my decision.
Thank you all so very much.
Shirley”
The historic pub found on the Main Road was set to have a large scale refurbishment following its closure in 2019, but development work has been pushed back several times.
The plans included a facelift, as well as a new outdoor dining area, with improvements planned for the pub’s kitchen and three bars too.
The vacant building has surrounded the pub since summer 2021 and it been described as an eyesore by local residents since its closure.
A spokesperson for Star Pubs & Bars, the pub’s owner, spoke exclusively to Nottingham Post and said: “Subject to recruiting new operators, Star Pubs & Bars is planning a major refurbishment of The Manvers Arms. The revamp will redecorate the outside of the pub and create a fantastic covered alfresco eating and drinking space in the large garden.
“In order to cater for all occasions, and appeal to local residents as well as those from further afield, the pub will have a lounge with a dining area, a cosy snug and a room dedicated to sports and classic pub games such as pool and darts. The kitchen will be upgraded as part of the project.
“The Manvers Arms is a landmark pub in a very prominent position in Radcliffe on Trent. With new homes under construction and planned in the vicinity, it is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to lease a pub.
“There is high demand for great pubs with big gardens in villages surrounding Nottingham, so we anticipate strong interest.”
