Additional road work is planned along the A52 adjacent to Radcliffe on Trent.
Starting 21 February work will take place to address essential resurfacing needs on the road.
The A52 will be closed overnight 8pm to 6am on Monday to Friday between Lees Barn Road and Golf Road until the resurfacing project is complete.
The work expected to take place up to late March but will depend upon weather conditions and any unforeseen circumstances.
National Highways East Midlands Operations Directorate Jon Pumfrey sent out a letter to local residents this week to notify those likely to be affected by the work.
The letter says: “We’ll be carrying out essential resurfacing work along the A52 eastbound and westbound carriageway between Lees Barn Road and Gold Road. This work is in addition [to] the improvement scheme that is already in construction along the A52 at Bingham Road junction.
“To minimise disruption to customers, we’ll work overnight while the road is less busy helping to keep it as free-flowing as possible during the day.
“Road works can be a noisy operation, and we… understand that this might affect people living close to the A52 whilst the work is carried out. We have discussed noise impact with the Local Authority Environmental Health Office, and agreed that we will complete the noisier activities, such as removing the old road surface by midnight. By doing this work until midnight, we can get the road back to normal quicker.”
The letter goes on to say: “To maintain a safe working environment for our workforce and customers, we will close the A52 between Lees Barn Road and Golf Road from 21 February 2022 overnight, Monday to Friday, 8pm to 6am until works are complete. There will be no road closures at the weekend to help minimise disruption.
“The road closure will incorporate the Cropwell Road A52 junction. We will try to keep this junction open as much as possible, allowing access between Radcliffe on Trent and the A46. However, there will be several nights where this junction will need to also be closed for the safety of our team and the public on the following dates:
- Friday 25th February
- Tuesday 1st March
- Monday 7th March to Friday 11th March”
The letter also clarifies: “During February and March 2022, statutory utility work will be taking place at Gamston roundabout and we’ll be finishing the work at Bingham Road junction. Due to the need to carry out this essential maintenance work we won’t be able to use Cropwell Road as the Bingham Road junction diversion route on a few nights.”

County Councillor Roger Upton of the Radcliffe on Trent division, speaking exclusively to Nottingham Post, said: “There is arguably never a good time to carry out major road works, but the surface of this section of the A52 is deteriorating badly and now seems to be the best time to replace it whilst the major alteration works at the Bingham road junction are being completed.
“They’re working overnight so there is less disruption to traffic but there will be some disturbance to local residents especially when the existing road surface is removed and this is why an 8pm start is proposed with a 4 week programme.
“There will be a diversion through Radcliffe on Trent and onto Cropwell Road or Golf Road.
“This is a major 1.5m investment by National Highways in a road in my Radcliffe on Trent division and I welcome this investment.”
